Raised like wildflowers, left loose to drink rain or tears, to turn sunlight into nourishment for ourselves. In the mud of the Tennessee River, we grew to blossom and fight off threats with our thorns.
Of course, one of us always had more thorns than blossoms.
We're Iris and Laurel Caulthorn, the Girls from Ruby Falls. We have a full score of stories to tell you; songs we sang to the moon and the ghosts in the woods. Some of them are about love, of course, both the kind you regret and the kind you mourn. Some of them are about our daddy and his whiskey; our mama and her weeping heart. Some of them are about blood.
We’d like to sing them to you, like we used to sing them to the ghosts...
