In 1979 saxophone player/vocalist Tom Cote and flutist Ed Fournier started what would become known as the premier jazz fusion band in Connecticut, Street Temperature. The band began a Friday night residency at the legendary 880 Club in the South End of Hartford that would last into the 90’s. It was the heyday of the Hartford club scene, and every week Street Temp played to a packed house. Throughout the band’s history there were quite a few personnel changes (aside from Tom and Ed of course), with many of the finest musicians in the state serving their tenure. Many, including Jeff Pevar, Grayson Hugh and the late Pat Nigro, moved on to perform and tour internationally.
Tom Cote will be reuniting band members from the circa 1987 lineup for an extremely rare performance at Infinity Hall. Sadly, the great Ed Fournier passed away in 1996, but Tom has enlisted very special guest Bill Holloman (Eight To The Bar, The Cartells, Chic) to play flute on many of the band’s signature arrangements. Rounding out the band will be ’87 alums Frank Giguere on drums, Paul DeMaio on guitar, Craig Garfinkel on bass and Ben Armentano on keyboards. Also joining the band will be veterans of that era’s “Brass Kicks Ass” horn section…Bruce “Goose” McGrath on baritone sax and Larry Gareau on trumpet.
Anyone who was lucky enough to have made the 880 Club scene back in the day knows what to expect from Street Temperature. But for those who missed it, here’s a rare video shoot from 1987 with the band performing Ben Armentano’s composition, “Ready Or Not”…
