AWB are widely regarded as one of the best soul and funk bands in the history of music. They burst onto the Northern soul scene in 1972 opening up for Clapton mixing classic sounds of Memphis Motown and Philly R&B to produce serious hits including “Cut The Cake” and “Pick Up The Pieces.”

Undeniably funky; AWB packs enough soul and groove to make you move in any sized room. With that in mind, we’re excited to see these heroes of funk test Infinity Halls limits. If you love flat out funky grooves, churnin' bass, burnin' brass, and funktastic tempos - do not miss this show.

Artist Bio

AWB: One of the top Soul, R & B, and Jazz-Funk groups alive. First known for the timeless instrumental hit Pick Up the Pieces, the band's future would lie in its diverse songwriting and unique approach, defying strict adherence to any one facet of rhythm & blues. Stretching across several gold & platinum albums and triple Grammy nominations with the legendary Atlantic label, they were the first Brits to simultaneously top the US Top 100 Singles, Albums and  R&B charts, before gathering similar UK and international honours.

Paradoxically, given their Scottish roots, the six-piece took the instrumental cues of Jazz giants Adderley, Hancock, Sample, Shorter, & company, and soul heroes Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Al Green, and Stevie Wonder, to create their own authentic R & B blend, embraced ever since by black and white audiences alike worldwide.

While a good number of tracks, Cut The Cake, Queen Of My Soul, Atlantic Avenue and Let's Go Round Again attracted major chart action as further singles, many album cuts, like Schoolboy Crush, Love Your Life and I'm The One were sampled and spun as deep grooves. AWB's contribution to Hip-Hop, Rap, and modern R&B is thus endorsed by the hundreds of samples dating from the Erik B & Rakim days, through Ice-T, Tribe Called Quest, P-Diddy, Mark Ronson et al - right up to Rick Ross (Rich is Gangsta) today. Conversely, ballads such as Cloudy, A Love Of Your Own and If I Ever Lose This Heaven stand as some of the finest soul tracks ever recorded.

A 19-CD box set of their complete studio recordings All The Pieces was released in 2014, on UK's Demon Records, and the newest offering AWB-R&B - a 14 track live recording - is now available on all major download sites internationally and at gigs.
