Artist Bio

Introducing H."Doobie" Powell, III... a Gospel Recording Artist, Producer, Singer, Songwriter, Composer and multi-faceted Musician, fueled and persuaded by his passionate devotion to his faith.

Doobie was born to Hubert Powell Jr. (Gospel Jazz Great) and Jacquelyn Powell (Powerhouse Vocalist) in Harford, CT. His musical journey began at the tender age of two, influenced by the musical prowess of his parent’s who exposed Doobie to many genres of music.

Music was a motivating force in Doobie’s life, and his skillful commitment to the art has opened many doors for him to work with the likes of Kim Burrell, the Clark Sisters, Tramaine Hawkins, Kelly Price, Rance Allen, Donald Lawrence, John P. Kee, the late Billy Preston, Mike Phillips, Tye Tribbett, Tonex, The Tommies, Pastor Marvin Winans, Rob Lewis, Alex Ward, Mano Haines, Harry Connick, and Raphael Saadiq, just to name a few. Doobie has performed on and produced many projects for many artists such as Kim Burrell and Harry Connick Jr,

Doobie is a very humble but highly esteemed musician. His love for the Lord has helped to develop his personal mission, which is to reach people through the powerful vehicle of music. With five critically acclaimed independent albums under his belt (found on iTunes), he is well on his way to seeing his mission transform from vision to reality. His goal as a Minister of Music and of the Gospel is to help advance the Kingdom of God by any means necessary. The hope is that through his music lives will eternally change by the compelling conviction of his lyrical expression, and help mankind make a decision for Christ.

Most recently, he has collaborated with Harry Connick, Jr. on a song dedicated to the Sandy Hook victims. Doobie’s gift was featured as an artist and musician in the movie “Black Nativity” (a contemporary adaptation of Langston Hughes' celebrated in 2013). Doobie worked very closely with the movie’s Executive Music Producer Raphael Saadiq and Associate Music Producer Taura Stinson. Doobie brilliantly utilized his keyboard knowledge on the organ, piano, Rhodes and in programming. He gracefully contributed to the lyrics on: ‘Motherless Child’ (performed by Jacob Latimore) and assisted in arranging three songs of the soundtrack:

Hush Child (performed by Jenifer Hudson, Jacob Latimore, Luke James and Grace),

Rise Up Shepherd and Follow (performed by Mary J. Blige)

Fix Me Jesus (performed by Jennifer Hudson)

Doobie was also allowed to use his unique and powerful vocal ability as he perfectly sang ‘Can’t Stop Praising His Name’ with the Gospledelic Choir that was played in full as the finale song of the movie during the credits.

"Doobie is an amazing musician with a heart of gold and more patience than I have seen in a long time. He came to me with a project called Black Nativity. This was at a time that I wasn't sure if I had made the right decision in taking the job, but meeting Doobie let me know that I made the right choice. He is a priceless talent, a humble soul and a team player, thank God for Doobie Powell." - Raphael Saadiq

H. Doobie Powell III also currently serves as the Minister of Music at the Latter Rain Christian Fellowship Hartford, CT. Please take an opportunity to view the website: latterrainchristianfellowship.org

He celebrates his heritage of music as he comes from a family line of Musicians, singers and preachers. He and his family have traveled extensively to minister in the U S, Japan, Africa and Paris, France.

As a loving father of four, Doobie’s desire is to keep the rich legacy of this gift called music going.
