INTERVIEW: Listen to our blogger, Emily Edelman, chat with Todd Snider!
Called “America’s sharpest musical storyteller” by Rolling Stone, folk singer-songwriter artist Todd Snider has mastered the balancing act of blending his influences with a personal flair to create a unique, alluring blend of Americana storytelling and heartbreak. Country music legend Kris Kristofferson describes Snider as having “the heart and humor of John Prine, the wild unpredictability of Roger Miller, and a fresh, original spirit and freedom of imagination that’s absolutely his own.”
Snider got his start after being discovered and polished by former Jimmy Buffett band member Keith Sykes and went on to sign with the legend’s Margaritaville Records. It was here that his debut album, Songs for the Daily Planet, was released in 1994 with his attention grabbing single “Talkin’ Seattle Grunge Rock Blues.” It was this track that proved Snider’s unique talent for appealing to a broad audience from rebellious young people to the aging rebels of the 1960s kick off of rock and roll.
Snider’s latest album is Agnostic Hymns & Stoner Fables. The album debuted in the Top 20 of four separate Billboard charts, including the Indie Label Chart, the Folk Chart, the Internet Chart, and the Independent Core Store Report. The New York Times hailed it as "among his best" and Rolling Stone called it "the sharpest musical response yet to the excesses of the one percent."
