Balkun Brothers - CD Release Party with Special Guest West End Blend

It’s time for the much anticipated follow-up album to the Balkun Brothers 2013 debut EP, "God Bless Our Fallout Shelter", which was nominated for 'Album of the Year' at the 2014 CT Music Awards. Balkun Brothers' new full-length album will feature some of the band's best music to date and will prove just how versatile the band's repertoire of songs truly is. The collection of music chosen by the band includes heavy hitting rock anthems along with traditional blues standards, all the while mixing their own spin of funk, jam, and psychedelia into one explosive album of unique, fresh, and exciting music than fans across the globe are sure to love. Balkun Brothers' January 8th show at Infinity Music Hall marks the band's only hometown CD release date and is sure to be one of the best of the entire tour. The band will be joined by fellow Hartford natives, West End Blend, who also just released their latest EP in September 2014. The energy put out by the Funk/ Soul/ Hip-Hop collective of WEB is a perfect match to heat up the room just in time for the Balkun Brothers to blow you away.

"West End Blend sounds like the funk giants mentioned earlier (George Clinton, Earth Wind & Fire, Kool & the Gang), but it's closer in spirit to the more recent acid jazz: the Brand New Heavies, Jamiroquai, Digable Planets and others, who pull together various strains of funk, soul, hip-hop and jazz.” - Mike Hamad, Hartford Courant

Since their conception, CT-based Funk/Soul band West End Blend has been playing their version of Funk and Soul in venues all over the Northeast and beyond. Fronted by vocalist Erica T. Bryan, the band pays homage to classic throwback sounds while adding their own distinct vibe and flair. Behind her, the Blend packs two guitars, a two-piece horn section, bass, keyboards and drums onto stages every night. From humble beginnings in an epic and sweaty basement dance party, The Blend’s goal has always been to bring that same atmosphere to their shows ever since.

West End Blend has shared the stage with Charles Bradley, Turkuaz, members of Snarky Puppy and Lettuce, Break Science, Kung Fu, Twiddle, Sister Sparrow & the Dirty Birds, The Nth Power, The Motet and countless others Jam/Funk staples. Their horns have also been featured as special guests with bands such as Dopapod, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, Twiddle, TAUK and more.  West End Blend has begun to take their dance party to cities around the US so be on the lookout for when The Blend comes to your town.
