The Simon & Garfunkel Songbook Show
featuring Aztec Two-Step with Tony Traguardo narrating
When Rex Fowler and Neal Shulman, the critically acclaimed duo Aztec Two-Step, burst on the scene in 1972 with their Elektra Records debut, they were often reviewed as having the “intellectual lyricism” and “ethereal harmonies” of their legendary predecessors, Simon & Garfunkel. Renowned for helping to usher folk-rock music of the 1960s into the '70s and beyond, Aztec Two-Step continues to be one of acoustic music's most beloved and enduring acts. While the duo possesses a rich musical legacy of their own, here they masterfully interpret and perform the timeless songs and harmonies of Simon & Garfunkel.
This mesmerizing multimedia music event celebrates Simon & Garfunkel's iconic contribution to Pop Culture and beyond. The music speaks for itself. The storyline of the Songbook show was originally created by the late great pioneer of progressive FM radio and author, Pete Fornatale. Now mc'ing the show and featured on narration, along with creating The Songbook’s slideshow, is Fornatale's protégé, WCWP DJ and Long Island Hall of Fame co-founder Tony Traguardo. Laughter and nostalgia abound, and a sing-a- long is always in the mix.
“It was a great night of stories and songs...outstanding performances by Rex and Neal with insightful, entertaining musings......Wonderful, wonderful!! The audience just loved every minute of it.”- Barbara Lavery, Director, The Bendheim Performing Arts Center, Scarsdale, NY
“What makes Aztec Two-Step’s take on the Simon & Garfunkel songbook more than just a tribute band’s cover set? Start with a spicy mix of Rex and Neal’s original harmony to complement the classic S&G vocal arrangements, add an entirely new dimension with Neal’s dazzling acoustic guitar work, and wrap it up with their genuine love for those great songs and the memories they invoke. Aztec Two-Step invite you into their living room for a personal retrospective on the music that influenced them - and an entire generation. A big winner and not just because they sold our place out.”
- David Lavalley Director, The Center for Arts in Natick, MA
“Audience favorite Aztec Two-Step wowed our venue with the premiere of their Simon & Garfunkel Songbook concert. On a warm Thanksgiving weekend, a sell-out crowd sang along nostalgically to S&G hits like Cecilia, Mrs. Robinson, and Hazy Shade of Winter.....There was an amazing atmosphere created from the combined love for Aztec Two-Step and the S&G canon that simply made the evening.”- Scott Sheldon, Director, Sanctuary Concerts, Chatham, NJ
