You may have seen George Potts as a member of the popular quartet The Joint Chiefs, but George has been singing & playing music throughout Litchfield County as a solo act for 40 years.
Primarily a finger-style guitarist and tenor vocalist, George mines his solo material from many places: old church hymns & bluesy tunes, reinterpretations of Motown & Pop hits, as well as original songs he has written over the years. “I am certainly not a prolific writer. I wish I was, but I’m my own worst critic. Thankfully, the ones that have gotten through my own personal gauntlet have held up OK. I still enjoy playing them!”
He goes on to explain, “There is something uniquely freeing about playing as a solo act. Because you don’t have to be tightly locked-in rhythmically or vocally, you can choose to pull a song into unexpected places; and that’s where my ‘musical goose bumps’ live. It also gives me the opportunity to play other material I may have written or arranged that might not quite fit into the Joint Chiefs’ style.”
